[LETTER] Khanya Hospice receives a donation from the SUN

Khanya Hospice was one of many non-profit organisations to receive a donation from the SUN.

EDITOR – On behalf of the management and staff of Khanya Hospice, we thank you, the South Coast SUN for always thinking of us and your kind support all the years. Believe me, your donation comes in very handy in a time of giving. We have to make sure our patients have what they need. We service a huge area from Isipingo to Hibberdene.

We often find that people are left traumatised, distraught and in a state of shock after receiving the news from their medical professional that they have been diagnosed with cancer, HIV or TB.

We greatly appreciate you thinking of us. In many instances patients lack food, normal toiletries and they don’t wear or even have a mask, no sanitisers and no protective gear. We have to basically supply everything so that the patients, their families and our nursing staff are safe.

Khanya Hospice, as a NGO, does not receive government funding and we looked after and care for an average of 215 patients per week. We spend our money on our cars tyres, fuel, and for patients medical supplies.

To comply with government regulations, we have to have the shops and offices de-sanitised and make sure staff are protected and this all costs money, unexpected expenses that were not budgeted for. Thank you once again for your great donation.
