This is my opinion [LETTER]

That is why things are going so badly, due to this unacceptable manner.

EDITOR – I read council (ward 97) response on regulations with regard to bad support to Amanzimtoti, especially the swimming pools.

May I put my two cents worth on the service delivery situation in Amanzimtoti.

* Nowadays, they hand contracts to contractors in a so called ‘fast tracking’ manner, which in my observation is proving to be unsustainable by handing it to incompetent operators. They don’t adhere to logic and reasonable finalising works.

* My car radio was stolen within 20 minutes at Arbour Crossing. I am fully insured and put a claim to the insurance company. When I went to their choice of company to replace my car radio, I was asked: “Who is going to pay for the replacement?”

To me it sounds like a person who doesn’t understand. They gave me an estimate amount. The moment I informed the insurance company, they lifted the price to an unacceptable amount.

For me, that is corrupt.

* I was a member who did procurement for the government and you work according to strict procurement regulations. When I choose a company whose price and service is acceptable, the worker of the government agent that finalised the transaction sent me to a BEE company and without blinking an eye said to me, “How much do I get out of this?” I objected to this, but was quickly informed that is not your concern.

For many years, you were used to choosing a competent company that you were satisfied with.

That is why things are going so badly, due to this unacceptable manner.

I want to get this off my chest because in my upbringing I was taught to work with honesty and integrity.

If I tramp on others’ toes, take it or leave it. I have the proof to back this.
