Amanzimtoti hooligan driver [LETTER]

The sad truth is that this undisciplined individual thinks that he is admired for his reckless driving and noisy car.

EDITOR – In the Athlone Park area there are two orange Ford Focus ST motor vehicles that I have observed in the past few months.

The one is a standard model with a ND registration and appears to be driven by a woman who drives sedately, and the other either has a broken or modified exhaust, has a GP registration and is driven around the Amanzimtoti/ Athlone Park area by a hooligan driver who is a young male.

This reckless individual drives along Kingsway and Arbour Roads as if it is his personal drag strip, racing the noisy engine and screaming up and down the road.

On the morning of Tuesday, 19 January, he was observed standing stationary outside the Builders Express/ Ninos complex at Arbour Crossing, where he revved his vehicle’s noisy engine loudly and continuously for no reason at all, much to the irritation and disgust of the patrons at Ninos who just wanted to enjoy a quiet breakfast.

After this he and his young male passenger took to racing up and down the parking area at Arbour Crossing, with the associated excessive noise generated by the engine. He then turned into Arbour Road and departed with much revving and noise and at high speed.

The sad truth is that this undisciplined individual thinks that he is admired for his reckless driving and noisy car, whereas he is simply an irritation and a danger who should not be allowed to drive any vehicle in a civilised society.

He is a road safety hazard to himself and other motorists and pedestrians and it is suggested that, if you want to drive your noisy car in this fashion, you load it onto a trailer and take it to a race track where the unpleasant and excessive noise generated by your car is not offensive to anyone, and where you can drive safely under the supervision of real experts, not amateurs like yourself.

Young man, your presence in this area in your offensive car is extremely unwelcome. Metro Police, I assume you will be on the look out for this hooligan. In fact, you will hear the car before you see it.
