More afraid of dogs than muggers

I don’t find it safe to walk on our roads because of dogs being allowed to roam freely

EDITOR – I was horrified to read last week’s front page article headlined ‘Dogs attack women’, detailing the dog attack on two innocent victims.

I walk my little dachshund every morning in the Toti area and on two occasions, I was almost attacked by vicious dogs who were not restrained behind fences or kept in their yards.

Now on my regular walks, I am more careful but still more scared of dogs than being mugged.

I notice several home owners with big dogs do not have proper, sturdy fencing and sometimes dogs try to go through or climb over fences to get to my dog and I.

The CCPO has been helpful in warning such dog owners to keep their dogs properly enclosed on their property. But sadly I still don’t find it safe to walk on our roads because of dogs being allowed to roam freely. I urge dog owners to be vigilant and regularly check their fences and gates to ensure their dogs are enclosed at all times, especially if they have large, vicious breeds. Pedestrians should also be vigilant and carry a stick or something to defend themselves against dog attacks.

I wish the two women a speedy recovery and congratulate Kaylie for being so selfless, for putting her life at risk to help another person.
