Beach Road ‘car guards’ chase away tourists

Most of them, if not all, seemed to be under the influence of drugs and its dangerous to confront them, so we try not to be intimidated and dry away.

EDITOR – I have no idea whether my letter will have any impact on my complaint but I must try.

The situation with the car guard problem, in particular in Beach Road, Shad Place and Toti main beach parking lot areas, continues day after day and it is getting worse.

When trying to find parking in Beach Road, we were accosted by three so-called car guards to where they wanted us to park.

On arrival back at our car, we were badgered by them for money. When we tried to reverse out of the parking without giving them any money, they became abusive and aggressive.

Now I can still handle this because we must be forgiving but my wife and grandson felt very intimidated and afraid. We don’t feel safe shopping here anymore and even going to the beach with the family is becoming a no-no. I feel sorry for the holidaymakers who frequent our once-beautiful town. We need them and now they will be chased away by these people.

Most of them, if not all, seemed to be under the influence of drugs and it’s dangerous to confront them, so we try not to be intimidated and instead drive away. This issue has come up before but it seems our ward councillor and police force have become ineffective and have given up.
