SPCA in financial straits

We are asking everyone in Amanzimtoti to consider committing to a donation of just R30 a month.

EDITOR – The SPCA Amanzimtoti needs your help.

Unfortunately we are currently in a serious financial crisis where we are losing around R50,000 every month.

We try our best to help every single animal who comes through our doors, but sadly we simply can’t keep going this way.

Due to the fact that we pick up and take in stray dogs from the streets, and don’t ever turn an animal away, we are supposed to receive a grant from the municipality. Unfortunately we have not received the municipal grant for nine months and it doesn’t seem likely that we will receive it soon.

In addition to this, it has been a serious blow for our SPCA to discover that Lotto has excluded animal shelters from their call for applications for funding next year.

We were hoping to begin our extension plans this year, by building more ablutions, and eventually a tea garden on the land next door, but unfortunately have had to postpone these plans due to our serious financial difficulties.

The public wants the SPCA to come out and collect stray dogs, or even their own dogs they want to surrender. They want us to treat every sick and injured animal, and respond whenever we get a call about an animal in need. But as a result our vet and medicine bills are our highest accounts, at over R120,000 a month. If we keep going on this way, the eventual reality will be the closing of our doors.

We are asking everyone in Amanzimtoti to consider committing to a donation of just R30 a month. If you can afford to donate more, that would be wonderful, but for now we are asking for just R30 a month. We currently have around 6,600 likes on our Facebook page, and I’m sure we have many other supporters who are not on Facebook or who have not liked our page. If only a half of this number of people committed to R30 a month, not only would we be able to cover the R50,000 we’re losing every month, we would be able to do so much more to help animals, and bring to life all the dreams we have for our SPCA. Our banking details can be found below if you would like to make a monthly donation. You may feel it is a small amount, but it will make a big difference.
