Metro Police resources wasted

Why are our resources invested in this dysfunctional so-called 'police' while they should be doing traffic duties?

EDITOR – Allow me to share my experiences with our esteemed Metro Police, with your readers.

During the past week I was twice pulled off the road by Metro Police officers, who were busy doing simple tasks by huge numbers.

No less than half a dozen vehicles were standing idle while they, in their scores, checked which of the unwary drivers were unlicensed. They performed these duties haphazardly, without heeding proper procedures and themselves apparently unprepared. I asked one why this exercise in futility while they could be doing moving patrols, monitoring traffic. ”We do what we are told’,’ was his answer.

On the road leading to Galleria, where the road branches off to facilitate entrance to the parking garage, I was pulled off but I refused to stop at that road, and instead drove on and stopped in a lee-way for offloading of passengers. When I told the officer it is illegal to stop in the road, the reply was ”I can let you stop where I want”.

On three occasions I was asked to produce my driver’s license, and on giving it back without asking any questions, I refused to take it because the officers did not do their duty properly. Arguments ensued when I told them they should ask why I was not wearing glasses. Their reply every time was that they only check driver’s licenses. I insisted that they inspect mine to see if every entry was correct. I pointed out to them that there is a restriction on my license, namely number one. They could not find the explanation of this restriction on the back of the license card. By the way, I had eye surgery and carry a doctor’s card to explain why I drive without glasses.
