Reduce Twini Hill speed limit to 90km/h

EDITOR – It is Friday, 26 August.

As I sit down to write this letter, there has just been another major accident on the N2 north, at the top of Twini Hill.

This time, a busload of tired pupils returning home from a soccer day, were involved. This morning, a major accident occurred on the N2 north, at the bottom of Twini Hill. Two major accidents on the same hill, on one day. Not a week goes by without many accidents on this notorious stretch of road – travelling south and travelling north.

I have lived adjacent to this highway for 25 years and things have not improved, at all during this time. There was a time when the powers that be thought that the contours of the road, N2 south, up Twini hill, was the problem. This was attended to, but did not stop the frequent accidents. There is only one conclusion that will stop the slaughter on this hill. Alter the speed limit to 90 km/h from the top of Twini Hill to the bottom of this hill. Set up permanent cameras halfway up and halfway down the hill. This is, literally, a matter of life and death.

These steps will have the power to almost eliminate this scourge. It is, absolutely, the most urgent matter that needs to be attended to, without delay.
