Buoyed by behind the scenes commitment

Considering what they do on a daily basis, theirs is more of a calling than just a job.

EDITOR – It has always been painful for me to so often see Toti SPCA being unfairly and inaccurately criticised and blamed.

That is why last week’s page 2 article in the South Coast Sun about the SPCA’s new staff member in the PRO capacity made me finally decide to voice my opinions.

What was so lovely about the article was that it so factually and truthfully reflects what actually goes on behind the scenes and that the entire team – from management through all the staff, deserve only accolades and our admiration, as opposed to anything else.

I consider myself honoured and privileged to know and be called friends of such a group of people

The other regular volunteer SPCA adoption dog walkers who are with me there as often as possible, get quite a few peeks behind the scenes, and that is one of the reasons why we keep going back. The manager and her staff set such wonderful examples and show what true caring, concerned, humane, dedicated people they are deep down inside, often making personal sacrifices. Considering what they do on a daily basis, theirs is more of a calling than just a job.

When you are actually right there at the coalface, and not sitting behind your computer voicing your ill-informed opinions, you can truly appreciate and admire what these people do in distinctly adverse, often very unpleasant conditions for the benefit of our beloved animals. Merely to have made such a concerted effort to acquire the services of a person such as Sara-Jane as the new PRO is in itself further proof of the manager’s ability and concern for the welfare of our community’s animals.

I consider myself honoured and privileged to know and be called friends of such a group of people, and I look forward to supporting and assisting the new PRO and the SPCA team in whatever capacity I can.
