Pedestrians make N2 a gauntlet

The worst time is at twilight

EDITOR – Can something not be done to stop people from running across the N2?
Yet again, the Sun last week reported about a man who lost his life after he was knocked while trying to cross the highway in between Warner Beach and Winklespruit.

Countless bikers have almost been killed while trying to evade pedestrians who have bolted across the road in front of them.

The worst time is at twilight – the person isn’t visible until you are so close to them, it would be impossible to avoid hitting them. I understand pedestrians do not like using the bridges that run over the highway because criminals wait to pounce on them when they cross, but surely then law enforcement should safeguard these passages for them?

I remember when the fences were repaired to stop people from crossing the N2 by the CBD, but it wasn’t long after that new holes were cut into the wire to allow people access.

How many people must die before something is done about this?
