Compare now and then fairly

Beach never looked so good with pavements, beautiful roads and no potholes.

EDITOR – I had to smile while reading Jeff van Belkum’s letter of attack on our CCPO chairman.

I remember clearly what Kingsburgh Council looked like in this area for the past 60 years.

I’ve seen mayors come and go those of us who’ve lived here for so long remember what Kingsburgh looked like. I tried two businesses in the area which was difficult because of the state of the services of the council.

We had potholes everywhere – some of them so big if a donkey fell in, you’d think it was a bunny with its ears sticking out. We had septic tanks everywhere with no waterborne sewerage. Yes, sewage running down our streets. Our municipal fleet was so run down in comparison to our sister council in Amanzimtoti and our rates were among the highest in our province. This is truly what we had with Jeff as our so-called mayor.

Crime was also a big problem at the time, I lost a family member to crime in 1986 in Winklespruit. Today we have better roads, waterborne sewerage and lower rates and our town Warner Beach never looked so good with pavements, beautiful roads and no potholes.

For the first time we look like we belong to a municipality. What an improvement and a wonderful place to be. And today we have the CCPO which is an organisation that helps keep pensioners safe as we do not have necessary money for alarms and security. Jeff, enjoy your retirement as we don’t want to go back to where we come from under your mayorship.

To the CCPO – thank you for your time and effort. Keep up the good work and do whatever is necessary to keep us safe.

We have noticed such an improvement in the last few months, with more CCPO presence than ever.
