Restored Toti River teeming with birdlife again

The fish eagle Goliath and purple herons, kingfishers, giant pied and malachite are everywhere.

EDITOR – Here is the joy of seeing our river alive again.

With the railway track stabilisation complete, the removal of water hyacinth and the ocean being allowed to close the river mouth, we see the formation of the old lagoon and flood plain at the civic centre and adjoining Hutchison Park.

With abundant food, amazing bird life has returned. The fish eagle Goliath and purple herons, kingfishers, giant pied and malachite are everywhere.

We wish we can keep it like that.  However some organisation will find a reason to open the river mouth and all will disappear again.

  1. This morning, 9 September left me disgusted as I crossed the Toti river at the low water bridge. Raw sewage was overflowing from the manhole next to the river. It is dirty raw sewage with a nasty, filthy smell.
This has been going on for a long time, and yes, I saw two beautiful Fish eagles perched in the trees a long the river. Who can I talk to? Where does one go to force someone to stop this rot.
Is Toti going to become like the rest of the country with dirty filthy contaminated rivers, or can we fix it?
