* TWO young girls, aged 11 and 12, were assaulted by a group of young men in the Seadoone road area last Friday afternoon. The girls were walking home from school shortly after 2pm on Friday and were climbing the stairs that lead from Seadoone Road to Worldsview Road.
They were about halfway up the stairs when they were stopped by a group of about 10 young men, ranging in age from 12 to 17.
* A MASSIVE Shell Ultra City development is now under construction on the freeway near Umgababa. The project is similar to the one built by Shell near Escort.
The Ultra City project at Escort cost R9-million to build and it is likely the one at Umgababa will cost more because of escalation.
* A YOUNG Amanzimtoti first cricketer was killed in a head-on collision only hours before taking the field with his team in a game against Glenwood Old Boys last Saturday.
Richard Cawcutt (22) was travelling from Dundee to Toti last Saturday when his car was involved in a head-on collision with a truck near Ladysmith. He was killed instantly.
* THE December holiday season should be a bumper one for Toti and Kingburgh if holiday bookings are anything to go by.
The majority of the popular venues reflect a 100 percent booking rate from early December to the beginning of January, which indicates an improvement on last year’s influx of holidaymakers.
* THIS week sees the launch of Amanzimtoti author Barbara Cole’s latest book ‘Sabotage and Torture’.
This is Barbara’s third book and tells the story of the seven high ranking officers of the Zimbabwe Air Force who were detained after the sabotage and destruction of more than half of newly independent Zimbabwe’s defence aircraft in 1982.
*COMMERCE and industry is being asked by the Amanzimtoti Municipality to provide information about turnover, staff salary and wage bills for the calculation of Regional Services Council levies. Letters were sent out by the borough last week, asking for this information.
