Bugbears in Beach Road

I would be most grateful if someone could acknowledge this message and provide me with answers to my concerns.

EDITOR – We reside in Spring Tide, Beach Road, Amanzimtoti and would like to raise a few issues:

  1. · The retaining wall on the pavement in front of Spring Tide (wall reference number WCO698) is in an alarming state of disrepair. The wall is leaning at a very precarious angle which, in some places, is only kept in an upright position by a tree on the pavement. This has already been pointed out to Andre Beetge in person.
  2. · The traffic in Beach Road is in drastic need of ‘calming’. Is it possible to have speed humps put down at more frequent intervals and of a greater magnitude to try and slow down the traffic? The speed humps which are there already serve no real purpose as they are so far apart and also hardly raised enough to slow down motorists. We are particularly aware of this at night as people seem to think Beach Road is a race track. At times cars go past so fast that it is very difficult to determine in which direction they have gone.
  3. · And who in their wisdom gave the go-ahead for the upgrade of Rogies Park at this time of the year? Clearly this is not going to be completed before the Christmas holiday period when upcountry holidaymakers flock to our beaches. So we are faced with the eyesore of a construction site where very little work is going on. We are in the area during the course of each day and hardly ever see any work being done. Did anyone spare a thought for the traders who occupied the stalls which were there and quite adequate, and the loss of income they will experience during this period?

I would be most grateful if someone could acknowledge this message and provide me with answers to my concerns.
