*THREATENING telephone calls are being made to Toti councillor Thora Cole and she has reported the matter to the police. She has also reported it to the post office, who have offered to change her phone number but she is hesitant to do so because her number is known to friends and constituents and she is dependent on the phone in her election campaign.

*THE SANLAM shopping centre in Amanzimtoti has been turned down in its application for shopkeepers to stage regular flea markets in the mall area of the shopping complex. It was planned by sanlams owners to stage the flea markets in the mall with the participation of all he tenants of the complex. However at the full Toti council meeting, the application was refused because the council was not empowered to grant the authority.

*KINGSBURGH councillor and business man Barry Ross was acquitted on all charges at the Durban Magistrate’s court last week in a case brought against him by fellow councillor and business associate Stella Homan. The charge arose from a blank signed cheque given to Mr Ross by Mrs Homan on behalf of SA Homan Builders, for the purchase of a piece of equipment for a building contract. Mr Ross was doing for the building company.

*THE first experimental debit card telephones in Natal to be known as ‘card phones’ have been installed at various post offices, including Toti. Two card denominations will be available for thetest phase – a card with a R10 facevalue which will allow R11 worth of calls and R5 card which allows calls to the value of R5.40. These may purchase at counter 1 of the Toti post office.

*A HAZARD has been created on the northbound freeway  near Kingsway High and motorists are warned to exercise caution on this stretch of road. A bottleneck has been created by the sitting of the heavy vehicle simulation on this stretch of road and dangers could result until motorists get use to the situation.

*A PLAN by the Toti Council to do a private deal with the owners  of the Poseidon on a new entertainment , cinema and restaurant complex on the beach front is likely to be opposed by two Toti businessmen. At the last meeting at the Toti council it was agreed that a revelopment plan for the Posiedon be carried out and that a contract be drawn up with the owners of the Poseidon.
