Cupcakes of Hope, a non-profit company and public benefit organisation, raises awareness of childhood cancer and provides funds for about 200 patients each month who need medical and financial assistance. This is predominantly done through its annual Cupcakes 4 Kids with Cancer drive.

Elna van der Walt, Moira Rigby, Sonia Jarrett (Kingsburgh Lions Club), Mia Hannay and Danelle Oosthuizen (Disney princesses) support Cupcakes of Hope.

Mall coordinator Shyanne Kanayee said that although they made 50% less than last year, they had a good day. “We are grateful to all who came out to sponsor cupcakes, buy and show their love, including the Amanzimtoti and Kingsburgh Lions,” she said.

In addition, Chris Botes, a 17-year-old brain cancer survivor, was there to sell bracelets in an effort to raise funds for the organisation that assisted him through his journey. He and his friends at The Bridge Children’s Centre in Amanzimtoti are crafting exquisite beaded bracelets to raise R50 000.

This year, Cupcakes of Hope raised over R2.3 million from 74 malls across the country. In a statement, it thanked every person who baked, decorated, volunteered and donated towards the sweetest day of the year.
