Extended pump station work affects southern wards

Residents who do have water are urged to reduce consumption to help preserve reserves.

WATER supply from the South Coast Augmentation into southern wards is currently (October 1) impacted due to ongoing electrical maintenance at the pump station.

Ward 97 councillor, André Beetge, said following scheduled maintenance that necessitated the pump station to be switched off until 16:00, more work is required and is expected to be completed closer to 21:00.

“Outlets from reservoirs were already closed to 50% this morning in an attempt to buffer distribution and eliminate prolonged outages, once supply is restored. The diminished supply started affecting high areas first, but as demand increased early evening, it also started affecting areas lower down,” he said.

Those who do have water are urged to reduce consumption to help preserve reserves. “It need also be noted that it will take time until normal supply is restored once the pump station is fully operational. This due to a large area stretching from Umlazi to Pennington being affected,” said Beetge.
