Wrap Toti in pink for cancer awareness
Show your support to cancer patients by wrapping a tree, pillar or gate post with pink material for September, October and November.
KHANYA Hospice‘s Pink Tree Drive raises funds and awareness for cancer by encouraging people to wrap trees, and other objects, in pink.
Neil McDonald, CEO of Khanya Hospice and past president of the Rotary Club of Amanzimtoti, said the aim of the annual initiative is to encourage men and women to get tested for cancer as early detection saves lives.

“The drive is in recognition of Childhood Cancer Awareness Month this month, Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October and Testicular and Prostate Cancer Awareness in November. You can support this drive by obtaining pink material through a R200 donation, either from hospice or rotary, and wrapping trees, gate posts, pillars and so forth,” he said.
As a non-governmental organisation, the hospice relies on fundraising events such as this to continue offering free palliative care to patients from Athlone Park to Hibberdene.
“Over the years, people have hosted tea parties at home, clubs, churches and offices. At the end of ‘Movember’, donations are normally handed over to hospice to help us keep our doors open and do what we do best,” said McDonald.
