Community fun, centre upliftment at Usizo-Lomndeni.org [Pictures]

IN an effort to support Usizo-Lomndeni.org‘s community outreach initiatives, Corruseal’s Krupa Foundation recently created a library and clinic and expanded the seating area.

The community fun day and centre upliftment started with a street clean-up in Ezimangweni near Amanzimtoti and also included snacks, dancing, colouring in and the distribution of new school bags for the children in its programme.

The Kingsburgh Lions Club, which provides community assistance through initiatives like eye tests and hearing aids for schoolchildren, was also there to enjoy the day.

The non-profit organisation’s (NPO) co-founder, Zoë Bridge, alongside Debbie West, started the organisation during the Covid-19 lockdown when they noticed a desperate need for food.

“What started off as a daily soup drive, quickly turned into a community service organisation and beacon of hope. Our mission is to impart the love of Jesus and inspire life transformation by addressing the needs of communities with various partners,” said Bridge.

From its prefabricated container, and with the help of 17 volunteers, the NPO runs various programmes, including daily meals for up to 500 children in three nearby schools, sports for the ‘gogos’, educational and upskilling workshops, reading sessions, ‘moms and tots’ workshop and a children’s ministry. They also offer counselling and direct families to available services in Amanzimtoti.
