ISIPINGO Police Station’s September campaign aims to raise awareness about domestic violence, offering guidance, counselling and continuous support.

The station’s communications officer, Constable Donald Naidoo, said domestic violence has a profound impact on individuals, not just causing physical harm but emotional distress and social isolation.
“The physical, psychological or sexual trauma can lead to various short- and long-term health issues. Survivors often withdraw from social connections, including friends, family and community activities, which can increase their vulnerability,” he said.
The station will therefore be embarking on an awareness campaign during the month to educate the community about the various services for victims of these offences, as well as offer guidance.
“Complainants will be directed to on-site counsellors and police officers who are trained in the handling of gender-based violence (GBV) and domestic violence. Additional services will also be made available to ensure they receive the help they need,” he said.
Station commander Colonel Hensford Zama said that when reporting GBV, it is critical to use the correct terminology with a clear understanding of its definition to ensure that crime is reported accurately.
