Community contributions celebrated at women’s meeting

Michelle Dunnett was awarded a certificate of appreciation by the Amanzimtoti Women’s Institute for her contributions to uplifting the town.

IN celebration of Women’s Month, the Amanzimtoti Women’s Institute (AWI) recognised Michelle Dunnett’s contributions to uplifting the community.

On August 13, the AWI held its monthly meeting, featuring Michelle as a special guest speaker, resident and coordinator of Tidy Towns Amanzimtoti.

Belinda Thole, president of AWI, said Michelle shared the inspiring story of how she established Tidy Towns in the area almost two years ago.

“Through the community-driven project, she encourages the community to step up and get involved with keeping our town neat and tidy. There is no use just repeating the same old, ‘but we pay taxes’. We need to get up and be the difference we want to see,” she said.

Every August, the AWI recognises and celebrates women in the community. This year, they chose Michelle to be awarded a certificate of appreciation for all she is doing to uplift and improve the town.

“Our wish is that each and every resident takes ownership of their verge and immediate surroundings to make a difference,” added Belinda.

The Amanzimtoti Women’s Institute meets on the second Tuesday of each month at the Amanzimtoti Country Club. For more details, contact Belinda Thole on 082 466 0550.
