Transnet Engineering’s school-shoe drive brings smiles

Many disadvantaged learners in various schools across the country will benefit from the Winter Drive Shoes Campaign - 40 pairs of school shoes were distributed in the Umlazi District.

TRANSNET Engineering’s Winter Drive Shoes Campaign brought smiles to learners in the Umlazi District on August 2.

The handover was held at Amanzimtoti High School where 40 pairs of school shoes were donated.

Transet Engineering’s Amanda Khumalo said the purpose of the campaign was to collect school shoes to be donated to the disadvantaged communities around the areas where they operate during the chilly winter season.

“The campaign also coincided with the celebration of Mandela Month. This was another way of keeping his legacy alive by showing some love and unity to our communities, by making a difference,” she said.

The company purchased 1 000 pairs of shoes which are being distributed in various regions across the country where Transnet Engineering has its footprints.

“During this project, the company worked with the Department of Education, principals and directors who assisted in identifying needy learners in their schools. Without their invaluable support, we would have never reached this milestone. We would also like to thank our employees who also contributed to the campaign,” said Khumalo.

The handover follows an event held in Tongaat at Bufflesdale Secondary last week where 25 pairs of shoes were also donated. There are still more school beneficiaries to be visited, such as Pinetown district schools (60 pairs) and Newcastle (50 pairs).

The Department of Education’s director for the Umlazi District, Busi Mhlambi, expressed great appreciation for Transnet Engineering’s gestures.
