Men repair medical equipment for Khanya Hospice

With the help of two kind-hearted residents, Khanya Hospice is now in the position to assist patients with medical equipment.

TWO neighbours’ compassionate efforts have reignited hope at Khanya Hospice and significantly aided their community outreach initiatives.

The hospice’s CEO, Neil McDonald, said Dennis Jarvis and Peter Matthew from Doonside arrived at their head office in Umkomaas where all the medical equipment is kept, to see how they could assist.

“They wanted to help after they read in the SUN about the poor state in which people return medical equipment and wheelchairs. Both men lost their wives to cancer at the end of last year, and decided to be proactive and try to repair the wheelchairs and other equipment to the best of their ability,” he said, adding that these kind-hearted men have given him hope again.

McDonald was overjoyed by their initiative because the demand for wheelchairs is high.

“As a non-government/non-profit organisation, hospice not only helps our patients but also the community at large,” he said.
