According to the Mandela Day website, the day is an annual global celebration that takes place on Nelson Mandela’s birthday to honour his life and legacy. “This day is a call to action for individuals, communities and organisations to take time to reflect on Mandela’s values and principles and to make a positive impact in their own communities.”

The Youth Desk’s public relations officer, Austin Gounden, said the youth of today are the leaders of tomorrow. “Let us embrace this responsibility and make a positive impact in the world. Let us go out there and volunteer, mentor, learn and grow,” he said.
