Child safety session held at Umbogintwini Primary School

Grade Five to Seven Umbogintwini Primary School learners were equipped with life-saving knowledge of safety during the informative talk.

WITH a focus on child protection and social crime prevention, Sparrow Trust and its partners recently had the opportunity to engage in a lively safety session with Grade Five to Seven learners at Umbogintwini Primary School.

Estelle van Eeden, founding director of the counter-human trafficking organisation, said the session dealt with cybersafety and gender-based violence (GBV).

“The questions posed by learners showed insight, a willingness to learn, and a need for clear guidance from trusted adults. Every workshop that we do, together with the Amanzimtoti Community Police Social Crime Prevention team, gives a child the opportunity to reach out and receive help,” she said.

The children have access to counselling and guidance on reporting harmful situations through the social crime forums and the Amanzimtoti Police Station’s GBV desk, where local organisations provide free counselling services.
