Amanzimtoti Police Station's communications officer, Captain Charlene van der Spuy, cautions the community against a fake website portal circulating on various social media platforms.

AMANZIMTOTI police urge the community to beware of a fake SAPS Reservist Training Programme website portal and warn those who spread misinformation.

The station’s communications officer, Captain Charlene van der Spuy, said SAPS is concerned about a fake website portal circulating on various social media platforms, falsely claiming to advertise the SAPS Reservists Training Programme.

“We want to make it clear that the information contained on the mentioned website is false and misleading. Such dissemination of misinformation is not only irresponsible but also undermines the integrity of the police, potentially damaging their reputation,” she said.

Just as filing a false criminal charge is punishable, Van der Spuy said spreading false information via social media or websites that lead to criminal activity or wasteful use of state resources will be thoroughly investigated and prosecuted.

“Those found sharing fake information may also be subject to civil litigation to recover police expenses,” she said.
