Warner Beach Prep hosts successful inter-house gala

The atmosphere was electric at the school's inter-house gala as parents cheered the swimmers on.

WARNER Beach Preparatory School hosted an afternoon of exhilarating swimming and school spirit at its inter-house gala recently.

The school’s head of sport, James Orton, said the inter-house gala is held for a number of reasons: it promotes healthy competition between learners, it provides house points to see which house has the best swimmers and it showcases excellent swimmers and their talent.

“This gala was for the U9 to U13s, but we also had a participation race for the U14s. The day was a huge success, from ongoing support from the houses (especially Carter house who walked away with the Spirit award) and from the parents who seemed to be supporting in greater numbers than previous years,” he said.

The school hosted the traditional gala races such as individual medley, butterfly, backstroke, breaststroke and freestyle as well as relay races.

“There was also a Grade 7 vs staff relay. This year, the senior campus staff challenged the junior campus staff to a race. It was a close race with the senior campus staff taking the win. The Grade 7 boys put in a great fight for third, with the girls taking fourth place,” said Orton.

At the end of the day, house Carter clenched first place, with Tedder in second and Dovey in third.

Victrix Ludorum was awarded to Olivia Tegner, and Victor Ludorum went to Dax Herbst.
