Included in the eThekwini delegation were the mayor, Mxolisi Kaunda, and the deputy mayor, Zandile Myeni.

The main issues discussed were the provision of a stable electricity and water supply to Toyota, as well as the maintenance of road infrastructure in Prospecton where it is based.

CEO of Toyota South Africa Andrew Kirby said the company appreciates the support it receives from the municipality and said it is committed to continue investing in the city.

Mayor Kaunda said when he initiated the stakeholder engagement, he wanted to demonstrate that Durban continues to be the premier destination for investors.

“We have committed ourselves to making sure that our economic nodes are the safest, and in that way, we will continue attracting more investors and creating more jobs,” he said.
