Just before the 12:00 to 14:00 load-shedding put a pause on court proceedings today (February 6), Magistrate Zama Nyuswa was questioning De Jager’s defence to determine a timeline of his employment as well as when and why he moved from Amanzimtoti to Bloemfontein shortly after the murder of his wife, Liezel.

Although not as many as yesterday, community members were back at the Amanzimtoti Magistrate’s Court to stand in solidarity and demand bail be denied. Residents shouted ‘No bail, go to jail’ and held placards that said ‘No bail, Liezel’s children miss their mom’ and ‘Justice for Liezel’ as De Jager exited the van and entered the court.

The bail application has been postponed to February 22, where a final judgment is set to be heard.
