Jabulani resident celebrates 95th birthday

A surprise party was organised for the home's oldest and longest-standing resident, Joan Viljoen.

JOAN Viljoen, the oldest and longest-standing resident at Jabulani – The Kingsburgh Welfare Organisation for the Aged, celebrated her 95th birthday on January 20.

The residents organised a surprise party with tea, eats, gifts and a beautifully decorated birthday cake.

Joan, who said she had a suspicion there was something being planned for her, was pleasantly surprised when she walked into the hall filled with fellow residents who all wished her on her special day.

Thereafter, her son, David, and daughter-in-law, Rosemarie, who also live in the block of flats, treated her to lunch.

Rosemarie said Joan’s life motto is centred around doing whatever brings happiness.

“She’s also a very open person and will always make sure people who are around her are comfortable and happy,” she said.

Joan enjoys baking, maintaining a neat appearance and beautifying her home through diligent housekeeping.

She has two children, three grandchildren and three step-grandchildren.
