Illegal Baggies Beach motorcyclists warned

Minors are warned against driving their motorcycles illegally in the parking area at Baggies Beach.

FOLLOWING several complaints from residents at Baggies Beach regarding the behaviour of some motorcyclists, Ward 97 councillor André Beetge said law enforcement officers will act accordingly with those breaking the law.

Beetge said the area has been used to operate unlicensed and offroad motorcycles, while some drivers have been driving their motorcycles without helmets, or carrying passengers without helmets.

“Some are driving without a licence and can be seen wheelie-ing in the street, in the parking area or on the pavement,” said Beetge.

He said any person found in contravention of traffic laws will be charged, and any unroadworthy vehicle will be confiscated and impounded.

“Additional charges will be levied for verbal or physical abuse, failing to comply with instructions or attempting to flee from any law enforcement officer,” said Beetge.

According to the National Road Traffic Act 93 of 1996, operating an unlicensed vehicle on a public road is illegal. It is also illegal for a minor or unlicensed person to operate a vehicle on a public road.
