Amanzimtoti SPCA hosts successful Christmas market

All funds raised at the market / open day will go towards the upkeep and welfare of the animals in the SPCA's care.

THE Amanzimtoti SPCA held its fun-filled Christmas market / open day on November 25 and thanked all those who made the day a success.

The SPCA’s Michelle Hannan said there was an amazing turnout on the day. “We were very worried as the weather looked ominous, but we were so grateful to the vendors and to the public who turned out to support the event. We have had a consistent number of visitors who have come through on all our opening days this year, including our loyal supporters,” she said.

In addition to petting animals, browsing stalls, grabbing a bite to eat and finding bargains in its thrift store, this year, the SPCA had a Christmas Photo Competition. Entrants got to share a photo of their pet with a heartwarming story in a bid to win a prize.

“We had 25 entries altogether and some multiple entries for one owner. Judging was done by the public on the day. The top three were Gavin Visser with Benji, Tracy Smit with Zoey, and Carolyn Bouchard with Shirley Sheep,” said Hannan, adding that every cent raised on the day will go towards the upkeep and welfare of the animals in their care.

She thanked the staff and volunteers who worked in preparation for the day and on the day, the supporters and stallholders who came through, the regular supporters – Tara Aberdeen and crew who sold vegan food and Linda Botha and crew who sold pancakes – and the sponsors as well as the bakers who donated delicious goods.

“We are also overjoyed that we had a few applications for dogs to be adopted, too,” said Hannan.
