Isipingo roads get fresh licks of paint

Residents living in and around Isipingo Beach and Prospecton areas are urged to exercise caution on the roads as road markings continue in the area.

A PROJECT to repaint road markings is underway in Ward 90 where a team appointed by the eThekwini Municipality is currently at work in Isipingo Beach. The ward’s councillor, Shad Nowbuth, said after Isipingo Beach, the markers will move to Prospecton.

“All stop-street markings in the entire ward will be done first, followed by the repainting of speed humps, centre lines and everything else that needs remarking. Residents should note that no single road will be completely marked in one day. As a staggered approach is being used, it will take several days, if not weeks, before all roads in the entire ward are completely marked,” said Nowbuth.

The team is working with two vehicles, and the work area is clearly signposted with beacons.

The repainting of the road markings comes weeks after an accident on Phila Ndwandwe Road in Isipingo where Raveshan Govender (43) was killed in an apparent head-on collision with a taxi while making his way home from work on November 16. Govender was on his way home in the evening when he met his demise. The accident, and many similar to it on the same road, have been blamed on the lack of clear lane markings.
