Khanya Hospice benefits from successful Cuppa for Cansa High Tea

The high tea fundraiser brought together members of the community, sponsors and guest speakers for an afternoon of camaraderie and shared purpose.

MORE than R37 000 was raised for Khanya Hospice at Kingsway High School’s successful Cuppa for Cansa High Tea on World Hospice and Palliative Care Day, which was observed on October 14.

The school’s marketing assistant, Tumi Moumakwa, said the event not only marked a significant milestone for the school, which is celebrating its 70 years this year, but also demonstrated the unwavering support of our community.

“The high tea brought together members of our community, sponsors and esteemed guests for an afternoon of camaraderie and shared purpose. With the generous support of our sponsors, we were able to exceed our fundraising goals, making a meaningful contribution of R37 450.86 to the vital work of Khanya Hospice,” she said.

The event featured two distinguished guest speakers who shared their inspiring stories and valuable insights.

Tertia de Wet, a cancer survivor, illuminated the room with her journey of resilience, offering hope and encouragement to all in attendance. Dr Zoe Campbell-Gillies from East Coast Oncology dispelled myths and addressed the legends surrounding cancer, providing valuable information that empowers our community.

Moumakwa said, “We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the community and our sponsors for their overwhelming support. Your contributions have not only made this event a resounding success, but have also reaffirmed the strength of our collective commitment to making a difference in the lives of those affected by cancer.”

Khanya Hospice’s CEO, Neil McDonald, thanked the school for hosting the event and everyone who supported it. He also expressed the importance of such occasions, emphasising that hospices like theirs rely on community support to continue providing free services to the terminally ill.
