Amanzimtoti SPCA volunteers rally to raise funds

Volunteers were at various malls in the area to collect food and funds, while creating awareness about World Animal Week.

IN HONOUR of World Animal Week, Amanzimtoti SPCA volunteers were at various malls to raise funds and create awareness about animal welfare.

The SPCA’s Michelle Hannan said the aim of the week was to raise the status of animals in order to improve welfare standards around the globe. “Building the celebration of World Animal Day unites the animal welfare movement, mobilising it into a global force to make the world a better place for all animals,” she said.

The efforts of their volunteers, including two furry friends, Venus and Mufasa, who were adopted from the SPCA, played a significant role in raising funds and awareness.

Hannan said, “Our volunteer, Rob Rodell, contributed to the cause by donating and selling his Christmas CDs, with all proceeds benefiting the SPCA. Ashlea Jorgensen was such a star playing the guitar and singing up a storm at Seadoone Mall for us.”

The organisation extended thanks to the generous members of the public who contributed funds and food during the weekend’s mall collections, as well as all their volunteers who got involved.

Hannan also expressed gratitude to the management of Kingsburgh Mall, Victory Kwikspar, Seadoone Mall, Pick ’n Pay Hyper Arbour Crossing and Athlone Park Centre for allowing them to conduct their collections on their premises.
