The welfare’s Sandra Govender said the ‘healthy body, healthy mind’ programme was aimed at uplifting women in the community, especially home executives who need to take time for themselves.

“We believe that people are under immense stress as life’s challenges get to all of us, but we can take care of our body and thereby take care of our mind. I believe your health is your wealth,” she said.

Govender said they sought the services and help of Sheri-Ann Nagiah from Shapes for Women to assist in getting this message across. The guest speaker told the women about the importance of exercise, encouraged them to start a walking club and showed them some basic exercises.

At a wellness workshop for women are Lower Illovo residents, Jenny Naidoo and Pinky Radebe, with fitness instructor Sheri-Ann Nagiah and Sandra Govender from Kingsburgh Child and Family Welfare.

Govender said, “People who exercise regularly have better mental health and emotional well-being and lower rates of mental illness. Hence, a healthy mind and body can help us cope with stress, solve problems more effectively and make better decisions.”
