JABULANI residents, Marie (78) and Michael Schwartz (85), who got married on September 1, are a testament to ‘love knows no age’.
After the official ceremony at home affairs, the couple were surprised with a wedding reception in the hall at Jabulani – The Kingsburgh Welfare Organisation for the Aged.

They were surrounded by friends, family, committee members and residents. Michael said in all his years at the flat, this is the first time he has seen the hall so full.
After his wife passed away, Marie would drive him to and from the shop. After a few years of friendship, Michael decided to knock on her door and ask to be ‘more than friends’. The rest was history.
They said, “We were met with surprised reactions from people when they found out we were getting married. We just giggled. It just goes to show that love still exists, no matter your age.”
Michael, who was married for 40 years, believes that everyone needs a companion in life – someone to care for.
Liz Naude, on behalf of Jabulani, congratulated the newlyweds. “May you have lots of wonderful, happy years with us,” she said.
