Community worker bakes and donates 250 loaves of bread

It was the first meal of the day for many of the learners at Zuzumghele High School in Ezimbokodweni, just outside of Amanzimtoti.

COMMUNITY worker Feziwe Gambo, along with her baking team, recently delivered 250 loaves of bread to hungry children in her community.

Gambo is part of the Clover Mama Afrika project, which is a group of carefully selected women who act as pillars of strength in their communities. The project teaches and guides strong females, lovingly called mamas, in order to build their skills and sustain and improve their own community projects.

Gambo recently spent some time in her bakery at her centre, House-Kids Educare Centre in Ezimbokodweni, just outside of Amanzimtoti, along with her baking team, to bake up a storm for school learners. They delivered 250 loaves of bread to Zuzumghele High School.

Clover Mama Afrika’s public relations officer, Simóne Ferguson, said, “Never one to take all the recognition, she thanked all her bakers who were so keen to help her with this kind donation. Of course, the school and learners were beyond grateful for such a big and generous donation.”

She said this was a gesture that did not go unnoticed by the school and teachers as it was the first meal of the day for many learners.

Gambo also rented a jumping castle for the children at her centre to make sure they were spoilt and entertained for the day.

Ferguson said, “Tired, but with their emotional cups filled, the children left the centre with big smiles and happy hearts.”

Gambo started the centre in 2010 when she was part of a church community project and saw far too many children under the age of four who were left unattended. She now cares for 357 children between the ages of three months and seven years old at the centre. Her outreach programme also includes caring for 30 elderly members.
