ATM ‘fraudster’ arrested after chase

The suspect's car matched the description of a car that is known to be used by scammers.

A SUSPECTED card scammer was arrested on September 1, in Felekisi, after Blue Security – Durban positively identified a car matching the description of one used by card scammers in the Amanzimtoti area.

In a statement, Blue Security – Durban said one of their units was conducting a patrol in Amanzimtoti when they spotted the car.

“Our officer initiated a pursuit, prompting the vehicle to flee. A dramatic chase concluded with the vehicle crashing in the Felekisi area. He apprehended one suspect while the Community Crime Prevention Organisation and our Community Crime Prevention Unit (CCPU) members secured the scene. KwaMakhutha SAPS and detectives from the Amanzimtoti Police Station were notified to investigate further,” it said.

Several bank cards were discovered in the vehicle, which is suspected to be linked to reported card scams at ATMs, malls and petrol stations.

“Well done to our CCPU for a successful apprehension. Our dedication to safer communities remains unwavering,” the statement said.
