Andrews was down and out for six weeks while recovering from her hernia repair surgery. She thanked all those who supported her, sent her well wishes and welcomed her back with open arms.

Local artist Christine Andrews paints beach-themed murals on the Warnadoone Way bridge.

“I was excited to be back and to finish transforming the last section of the bridge. Sapphire Coast Tourism, who commissioned the project, had initially asked the community for their input on what artwork to paint. There were so many ideas that we decided to paint both sides of the bridge. The one side has the sunrise, fishermen, a rock pool and boats while the other has waves, body boarders and surfers,” she said.

Some of the other wall-painting projects stretch from Athlone Park to Umkomaas.

The community tourism organisation’s Romy Wenzel said, “Murals are painted to create a positive impact within the community. It also makes our town and region attractive to visitors, as well as showcasing the Sapphire Coast Region’s attractions as all the murals tell a different story of what to do and what to see,” said Wenzel.

She added that the more membership gets generated, the more projects can be considered going forward.
