Help Kingsburgh Welfare support those in need

The welfare is appealing for clothing, household goods, non-perishable food and toiletries for children and families in the community.

WITH Mandela Month being a time for giving, the Kingsburgh Child and Family Welfare appeal to the community to support them and the families they serve.

The welfare’s social worker, Sandra Govender, quoted Nelson Mandela by saying, ‘There can be no greater gift than that of giving one’s time and energy to help others without expecting anything in return.’

She said it has been tough times at the welfare where unemployment, poverty and lack of funding have been the order of the day.

The non-profit organisation, therefore, appeals for donations of clothing items, shoes, household goods and linen.

Govender said, “Clothing that you perhaps haven’t worn in the last year can be utilised by someone else who is less fortunate. It could also add to our income-generating project, where unemployed individuals can purchase from our charity shop and resell items for an income to sustain their families.”

The welfare also provides basic food items for families, which include non-perishables, such as rice, sugar, tea, mealie meal, pilchards, beans, jam, peanut butter, milk, soup, two-minute noodles and macaroni, as well as toiletries.

“On top of desperately needing food, we are also appealing for sanitary towels for our young girls as we embark on a programme to promote hygiene and abstinence,” said Govender.

She said they are only able to provide the best possible services to the children and families in the community through the help of others.

The welfare office and charity shop is open on weekdays (except Wednesdays) between 08:00 and 12:00.

The address is 2 Hall Road, Warner Beach. For more information, contact them on 031 916 2274.
