PHOTOS: Poinsettia Park hosts fun-filled fête

After a four-year break, the annual fundraiser made a grand return with activities, entertainment, food and stalls for the whole family to enjoy.

THERE was a hive of activity at Poinsettia Park Retirement Centre recently as they held their fun-filled fundraising fête after a four-year hiatus.

The centre’s community services manager, Wendy Lloyd, said they have been hosting fêtes for about 25 years, however, their last one was in 2018 due to Covid-19. “As a non-profit organisation, these events assist with raising funds for maintenance and upkeep of the complex, as well as for improvements,” she said.

This year’s theme was movies, with Disney’s Frozen chosen as the theme for the tea garden. “We enjoy creating a space for children to enjoy themselves, so this theme was fitting,” said Lloyd.

Apart from paintings of Disney characters on the walls, people dressed up as the characters, and handmade decorations were draped on the walls and tables. There were also plenty of fun activities, stalls and delicious food to indulge in.

Lloyd said, “Activities included a jumping castle, pony rides, craft for children, games, lucky dip and tombola stalls, a face painter as well as entertainment by Belinda Dolphin and the Hill Billy Line Dancing.”

There was jewellery, arts and crafts, plants, books, knitted goods, homemade cakes and savouries, pancakes, curry and much more. “The atmosphere was amazing; there was so much excitement and such a happy spirit. Many Toti residents came out and supported us. An all-around wonderful time was had by all,” said Lloyd.

She said they would love to have another fête, but that all depends on the support they are given and if there are enough goods to sell.
