Consider donating to Toti SPCA on Mandela Day

The animal shelter relies on donations and support from the community to do the work it does.

IN LIGHT of Mandela Day tomorrow, July 18, the Amanzimtoti SPCA is asking the community to consider them when making charitable contributions.

According to the Nelson Mandela Day website, this annual global celebration takes place on Mandela’s birthday to honour his life and legacy. “The day is a call to action for individuals, communities and organisations to take time to reflect on Mandela’s values and principles and to make a positive impact in their own communities,” it read.

Amanzimtoti SPCA’s Michelle Hannan said the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals’ (SPCA’s) main function is to monitor the welfare of all animals and to make sure there are no acts of cruelty taking place.

She added, “As a non-profit organisation, we rely on donations and support from the public to keep doing the work we do in the community, which spans from the old airport in the north to Hibberdene in the south, and 30km inland.”

In commemoration of the 67-minute campaign, Hannan is asking individuals and businesses to donate R67, 67 items of cat and/or dog food or 67 items that can be sold in its income-generating charity shops located at 115 Kingsway Road in Warner Beach, 3 Scott Street in Scottburgh, and its premises at 1 Nyati Road in Athlone Park.

Last month, Hannan said their year-end financials told a heartbreaking story.

“We have always saved for a rainy day, but sadly, those days came full force for us last year. The truth is we no longer have that financial buffer, and every month, we are running at a loss. We need your help,” she said.
