Pageant contestants strike a pose for a cause

The fun-filled pageant helped raise much-needed funds for Wanderers Haven, a non-profit organisation.

A Miss Baby to Queen / Mr Baby to King pageant was held at Splash Waterworld recently, to raise much-needed funds for Wanderers Haven which feeds hundreds of people a day.

The non-profit organisation’s co-founder, Sharon Swanepoel, said a mother, Rialda de Vaal, reached out to them as she needed a charity to assist with her little girl’s upcoming pageant.

“We later found out that she and her friend and partner, Lelani Rossouw, were the directors and founders of Miss Baby to Queen pageants. We then set up a meeting and started planning this amazing event. We believe God brought us together for a reason,” she said.

Swanepoel said the pageant was a resounding success. “All the finalists looked beautiful. It was fantastic to see the confidence and excitement on so many little faces. We are so thankful for all the entries and support. We had over 80 certificate and 31 title winners who all received a crown, sash and hamper. All contestants also received a goodie bag. We were honoured to have had Terrisha Ramrathan, Miss KwaZulu-Natal 2023, and Giselle du Plessis, owner of Chic and Unique modelling school, on our panel of judges,” she said.

She thanked all the sponsors who donated prizes/giveaways, volunteers who assisted, as well as the pageant directors for making the event a success.

“Overall, we raised R5 000. This will go towards our daily ministry. We feed hundreds of people a day, pay for bus tickets, assist people in finding employment and assist children with schooling, as well as rehabilitation and old-age-home placement. We are thankful and look forward to the next one,” said Swanepoel.
