Support the ‘Bottle of Hope’ soup project

THE Rotary Club of Amanzimtoti is embarking on a ‘Bottle of Hope’ soup drive for its 67 Mandela Day Project and appeals to the community to join in.

The club’s past president, Neil McDonald, said they are looking for a mix of dry ingredients that can be bottled and distributed to the less privileged in their area of service.

“We are in need of dry soup mix, soup powder, stock cubes, lentils, rice and dry beans to fill the bottles with. People can then add all this into a five-litre pot and cook a delicious, nutritional meal. They can also add a piece of meat and/or fresh vegetables,” he said.

McDonald added that this project will help put a nice hot meal on the family table. “There are still wonderful, caring people out there who want to help others. This is a project that you can support and get involved with,” he said.

Rotary is the oldest worldwide organisation, reaching out to millions of people each year and making a difference in communities.

According to the Nelson Mandela Day website, this annual global celebration takes place on Mandela’s birthday, July 18, to honour his life and legacy. “The day is a call to action for individuals, communities and organisations to take time to reflect on Mandela’s values and principles and to make a positive impact in their own communities,” it read.
