Isipingo girl scalded by boiling water

The 12-year-old was carrying out house chores when she was burnt.

A 12-YEAR-OLD girl from Isipingo is recovering in hospital after she suffered extensive burns to her body caused by boiling water on June 30.

The child, who will not be named to protect her identity, suffered second- and third-degree burns after she slipped and fell while carrying a bucket of boiling water. PT Ambulance Service spokesperson Dhevan Govindasamy said paramedics responded to the scene after a call was made to assist the girl.

“It is alleged that the girl was carrying boiling water in a bucket when she slipped and the water fell on her. She was burnt on her torso, hands, and legs,” said Govindasamy.

The girl was stabilised at the scene and later transported to Prince Mshiyeni Memorial Hospital.
PT Ambulance Service urged parents to keep a close eye on children and avoid making them do hazardous chores and tasks.

According to the National Burns Association of South Africa, up to 8 000 burn-related injuries occur in the country, and many of them involve children.
