Youth Crime Prevention Desk elects executive committee

The newly elected executive committee will use this forum to identify and address the safety needs of urban and rural youth.

THE Amanzimtoti police station recently hosted an AGM to elect community representatives to serve on the executive committee of the Youth Crime Prevention Desk.

The police, in collaboration with the Amanzimtoti Community Police Forum (ACPF), congratulated Christopher Flannery on his appointment as chairperson and Zimele Sibisi as deputy chairperson.

The Youth Crime Prevention Desk coordinator, Constable Nkululeko Gwala, said this forum creates leadership roles for the youth and gives them a voice within the existing community and partnership policing initiatives.

“The executive committee will further aim to use this platform for positive change, as they voluntarily serve the greater Amanzimtoti area to invest in the growth and future of young people,” he said.

Key functions of the forum include identifying and addressing the safety needs of urban and rural youth.

Gwala said, “The empowerment of youth to act as good citizens and role models is a further priority, along with skills development to prevent crime, increase communication, enable conflict resolution, and build interpersonal skills.”

The other executive committee members are Chesney Reddy, secretary; Nqobani Shabalala, deputy secretary; Brittney Bertasso, public relations officer; Austin Gounden, treasurer as well as members; Thando Ntuli, Gerhardus van den Berg, Anele Joja, Collett Roskruge and Sthabiso Mthethwa.
