The bakkie was taken at Barrio Park after 02:00 but was recovered in Mariannhill later that day badly damaged. It was stripped of the canopy and the animal cages, and there was damage to the computer box.

“This incident has really set us back yet again, and we now ask the public to please bear with us when it comes to attending to emergencies with only one vehicle at our disposal. Devastated doesn’t begin to express how we all feel,” read a statement posted by the SPCA.

The car was recovered with the help of CarTrack.

“We would like to express our gratitude to CarTrack for their prompt response and for recovering the vehicle. To Mariah Mofokeng from CarTrack for keeping up to date; you are a superstar,” it read.

SPCA Amanzimtoti welcomes donations and can be contacted on 031 904 2424.
