Join the Umbogintwini Beach clean-up

Clean Surf Project, in collaboration with others, will be hosting the clean-up this Saturday, June 10.

CLEAN Surf Project will host a beach clean-up, in line with the environmental calendar on Saturday, June 10 at Umbogintwini Beach from 09:00 to 11:00

The clean-up, in celebration of World Environment Day on June 5 and World Oceans Day on June 8, will be supported by Sapphire Coast Tourism, as well as members of Little Life Pre-Primary School, Prescient Primary School and Umkomaas Primary School.

Bring along some gloves, water, hat, sunscreen and shoes. Refuse bags will be supplied by Clean Surf Project, a local non-profit organisation focusing on clean-up operations in the greater Amanzimtoti area.

Clean Surf Project’s aim is to save the oceans and protect the environment. They encourage community members, local organisations and/or businesses to join.

The meeting place is 1 Golf Course Road, Athlone Park.

Sapphire Coast Tourism and Clean Surf Project spokesperson, Romy Wenzel, said, “As a build-up to the community clean-up, Sapphire Coast Tourism PEP (Public Employment Programme) members have been hard at work during the course of this week trying to clear piles of rubbish scattered along the river mouth and shore.”

She said that on Tuesday, June 6, a total of 45 refuse bags, as well as four bulk bags containing recyclable material, were successfully removed by a team of 13.
