Edu-Paw celebrates graduation day
The eight-week programme taught the children basic canine care, while instilling love and compassion to turn the tide on neglect and cruelty.
GRADUATION day for Edu-Paw’s Class 11, to celebrate the culmination of their eight-week canine care programme, was held at the Amanzimtoti SPCA on May 20.
The teachers and volunteers at Edu-Paw proudly handed certificates and hampers to the children and their dogs at the ceremony. During the course of the programme, they were taught the responsibility of owning a dog.

This included the topics of the correct food to feed them, providing adequate shelter and bedding, treatment of ticks, fleas and mange, and special care required for puppies. It also included the topics of disease and the importance of deworming, vaccinations and sterilisation, as well as dog training and the five freedoms of animal welfare.
Edu-Paw volunteer Jo Douwes said they managed to vaccinate all nine dogs and sterilise those that were not. The Robin Hood Foundation, a non-profit organisation, attended the ceremony and donated a number of items, including foodstuffs and personal-care packs for the class and its volunteers.
Edu-Paw extended a big thank you to all those who contributed towards graduation day, as well as the programme. The day was filled with sweet treats, a graduation cake, hotdogs, cooldrink, dog hampers, gifts for the children and volunteers, certificates, picture frames, posters and more.
Registration for class 12 is currently in progress, with the class set to commence in the second half of July.
